About the event
This Patchwork Duffle Bag pattern by Knot & Thread Design is one of my favorite projects to make, it's user friendly and very forgiving.
During this class, we will build the panels and assemble the whole bag!
Requirements for class:
Patchwork Duffle Bag 2nd Edition pattern; pdf or paper - your choice
All materials and fabric listed in the pattern.
COMPLETED patchwork sections - as instructed in the pattern through page 4 (these must be pre-made prior to coming to class.... see our prep class nights available below!) Bring all your extra pieces and scraps with you as well.
Sewing Machine, and standard sewing supplies; thread, scissors, marking tools, etc.)
Pins or Clips - the pattern requires a lot, I have some to use but may not be enough for all.
Optional: Rotary Cutter and Cutting Mat - the Studio has several of these for all to use, but feel free to bring your own.
Optional: Mini Iron and Iron Mat - the Studio has several irons also, but sometimes they get busy. Feel free to bring your own if you have one
PATTERN: You will need to purchase the Patchwork Duffle Bag 2nd Edition pattern on your own. You can find a digital option here: Patchwork Duffle Bag Pattern. Feel free to search if you can find it elsewhere or if you'd rather order a paper version - just make sure you get the 2nd Edition version!
MATERIALS: Once you purchase your pattern, review the fabric and supply requirements. You can purchase fabrics or use your stash, this is a great FQ friendly pattern, with some yardage needs for the lining.
OPTIONAL SUPPLY KIT AVAILABLE
If you don't want to search for all the right supplies other than your pretty fabric, you can buy a kit from me! I offer the option to purchase all supplies needed to make the bag except the fabric. The kit includes:
Batting - Low loft cotton (ask me if you want double batting)
Hardware - 2 D-rings, 2 Swivel Hooks, and 1 Strap adjuster
Handle webbing - 5 yards, grey
Zipper and double slide silver pulls - several color choices available
PRIOR TO CLASS: You will need to complete the assembly of the patchwork panels through page 4 in the pattern. (The step right before you quilt the panels). This includes cutting your fabric into squares and assembling the piecing for the bag body, 2 end panels, and 2 pockets.
OPTIONAL PREP NIGHTS: In invite you to attend one of our Thursday Open Sews nights held almost every Thursday from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. It's just $8 to show up and I can help you prep, cut, and piece your patchwork to be ready for the class on Aug 22nd!
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING CLASS:
In this class we will start with quilting the panels with your premade patchwork pieces and end with a completed duffle bag you can carry your supplies home in!
I promise you can do the zipper, this one is extra wide which doesn't require a special zipper foot for your sewing machine.
We will move along with the group, together in the class and I'm sure fellow attendees will help if you feel you get stuck. This should be a laid back atmosphere, no pressure, and we'll get it done together!
